First stop-Marco Polo Airport, then water taxi across the lagoon (550 sq.k in area)to Venice. 1st day was cold, wet, windy & overcast. Our hotel (“American”) was a fair walk both to San Marco and to the restaurant where we had our suppers. The walk gave us a good feel for the antiquity and canalness of the city. Tons of tourists and high prices.Visited the Doge’s Palace on San Marco Square. We also enjoyed an chamber music concert dominated by Vivaldi (Venice was his home town), Bellini, etc. During our stay we visited two islands- Murano (glass blowing) and Burano.
